The Krewe of Elaines was created in honor of the late Elaine James, a resilient and visionary woman whose dedication, strength, and love for people laid the foundation for something truly special. Through hard work, perseverance, and an unwavering commitment to her community, Elaine built a beloved business in the Quarters that has proudly served for over 20 years. More than just a place of business, her establishment became a trusted gathering space for community celebration, where good food, music, laughter, and genuine camaraderie came together in a safe and welcoming environment.
Elaine’s passion for service extended beyond business. In 2006, she founded The Place to Be Mardi Gras Club, a nonprofit organization established to celebrate culture, unity, and community through Mardi Gras traditions. That organization remains the official 501(c)(3) today. Elaine’s legacy was rooted in love — love for community, connection, and creating spaces where everyone felt seen and valued. That same spirit lives on through the Krewe of Elaines Mardi Gras and Social Club, which honors her life and legacy by bringing people together through tradition, celebration, unity, and meaningful connection during Mardi Gras events.
Our signature community celebration and the heart of the Krewe of Elaines, the Annual Mardi Gras Ball, unites members, supporters, and guests for an elegant evening filled with music, tradition, and the vibrant spirit of Gulf Coast Mardi Gras. This event not only honors our culture but also fosters unforgettable memories and meaningful connections among attendees.
